In April of this year, Oscar Niemeyer, at age 100, broke ground on an ambitious new building project in Avilés in Northern Spain. The man who dreamed of and created the blueprint for Brasilia remains one of Brazil’s greatest gifts to western civilization.

There are many books dedicated to this titan of modern architecture, but a new title by Yale University Press, Oscar Niemeyer: Curves of Irreverence, is a stunning retrospective of his career. Or at least the first seven decades of it.

Lush, tactile photography of his life’s work is interlaced with author/architect Styliane Philippou’s piercing analysis of Niemeyer’s place in modern architecture and post-colonial defiance in the 20th century.

Luis Ibarra and Teresa Rosano are native Tucsonans and graduates of the University of Arizona College of Architecture. In 1999, they founded Ibarra Rosano Design Architects, and have since earned national recognition as one of Arizona’s top design firms. Their work has been published internationally and has received numerous regional and national awards. They were selected by Architecture Magazine as one of nine firms to represent their state in its issue on “the Arizona School”, and their work was exhibited at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art in its architecture and design show featuring work from six firms based in the southwest region.

a comprehensive photo review by kcoll98 shows the 24-year-old illustrator’s work in amazing detail. also, miamihellhound grabbed a little video from the event.

ms. suarez work has been described as “a collection of work focusing on the beauty of her female characters…stylized figures (that) draw highly on influential, doe-eyed cartoon imagery, evident in their candid gazes…an unsettling blend between the estranged and the enchanted”.
